Mondesir, congratulations on your upcoming solo performance at Kazerne Reigersbos during ADE. How do you feel about it?

Excited. It's something I've been working towards for a while and looking forward to, and now it's finally happening.

Can you tell us more about your musical background and the influences that have contributed to your versatile musical style?

When I was young, my parents listened to various types of music. My father liked jazz, soul, gospel, R&B, and Latin, while my mother enjoyed classical and gospel. My brother also had a significant influence on what I listened to. Later, when I went to high school, I was exposed to even more diverse music. I drew inspiration from all of this, and you can hear it in my music.

What inspires you to explore your musical expression and not limit yourself to one genre?

I can't help it, hahaha. Mixing different genres is something that happens organically for me.

Sankofa Archives focuses on collecting and passing on stories in art and culture. How do you see your music as a part of this larger narrative?

I hope that through my live performance, I can inspire people by showing and sharing what has inspired me from my culture. I hope to help people in that way.

What are some of the challenges you've faced in pursuing your musical career, and how have you overcome them?

There have been many challenges, but with each one, it helped me to remind myself why I started with music in the first place. Then I realize that my love for music is too great to let these challenges deter me.

What do you hope people will take away from attending your performance on October 22nd?

I hope people get to know me and what I do and leave feeling inspired.

How do you envision yourself evolving as an artist in the coming years, and are there any specific projects or collaborations you're looking forward to?

I see myself doing the same as I am now, but with more people checking out my work. I'm also working on projects that I'm looking forward to.

What is the most important advice you would like to share with other emerging musicians striving for success in the music industry?

Stay true to yourself because that's the one thing that's still unique in the music industry. Believe in yourself because you'll need it, and surround yourself with the right people who will help you not only in your music but in life as well.
