MUSEUMNACHT 2023
SANKOFA ARCHIVES PRESENTS:
'THIRD CULTURE IDENTITIES'
On Saturday, November 4th, Sankofa Archives organized an exhibition at Kazerne Reigersbos during Museumnacht in Amsterdam. During this exhibition, creatives came together to present music, fashion, and art, all with strong ties to the neighborhood or their surroundings.
In a world that was increasingly interconnected, the concept of identity had unfolded like a rich tapestry, woven with the diverse threads of different cultures. Sankofa Archives proudly presented the exhibition "Third Culture Identities," which delved deeper into the layered dance of cultural influences in Amsterdam Southeast. By the term "third culture," I referred to the generation arising from immigrants but born in the Netherlands. With this third culture, I meant, firstly, the culture I come from, secondly, the culture of the West, and thirdly, the blend of cultures that come together.
The essence of this concept unfolded within the exhibition "Third Culture Identities." Sankofa Archives invited visitors on a transformative journey of understanding, reflection, and celebration of the cultural blend of Amsterdam Southeast. Driven by our mission to bring forgotten stories and undiscovered opportunities to light, this exhibition delved deep into the core of the multicultural human experience.
